Project Background

During the height of the pandemic, I was approached by faculty in World Languages if I could help create two videos that showcased the work of scientists at Boise State to protect the flora (sagebrush) and fauna (pygmy rabbit and greater sage-grouse) of the Great Basin region of Idaho. But here was the challenge: the videos had to be done in Spanish (to speak to incoming Latinx students who were considering a career in STEM) and I don’t speak Spanish! So I interviewed two scientists talking about their research, and I worked with graduate students in World Languages to help translate the interviews. I then devised a system in Adobe Premiere to edit both a Spanish and English version of each video. Spanish narration was provided by World Languages students, and the final videos were captioned in both Spanish and English. It was a lot of work to complete these, but the end result was amazing!
